Valerie studied art and design at Norwich and Farnham and took a post-graduate course at the University of Reading. For some years she was head of art in a private school in Suffolk. Since 1999 she has been a professional artist living in Wales. She exhibits, works to commission and is a freelance tutor. Her work is solitary, restful and contemplative, capturing a particular mood rather than a specific location.

Huw Lewis-Jones
I was born and raised in Dolgellau, North Wales and went to school in London attending a Grammar school well known for its Art and Design section. After art O and A levels and preparation of a Foundation course portfolio I moved to Liverpool to study Medicine. I became a Consultant Radiologist at University Hospital Aintree in a Head and Neck cancer unit. I continued with my Art development during my Medical career and have now taken early retirement from the NHS to pursue my Art career further. I have exhibited between 2 and 3 times a year in Liverpool and North Wales for the last 10 years. I love the dark Welsh landscapes of my home town area in South Snowdonia and the bright night time landscapes of the city of Liverpool. My recent work has also included portraits of famous faces from these areas.
Chris Owens
I was born in Somerset, and lived and worked in various parts of the UK before settling in Dolgellau. Following a career that spanned education, IT and media, and with over 30 years of photographic experience, I decided in 2009 to “retire” and pursue my love of art and photography.
My passion is for the natural world, the patterns of nature, the grandeur of coastal and mountain landscapes, and for the wildlife they contain. I have been greatly inspired by the welsh coastal and mountain scenery. I work in both colour and monochrome, and now entirely within the digital realm. However, my early photographic education was in the darkroom, and I apply this to the development of my images using digital techniques that emulates darkroom processes.
Much of my work is inspired by early photographers, such as, Edward Weston, Imogen Cunningham, Dorothea Lange, and Ansel Adams. I have also been influenced by the work of artists like Georgia O’Keefe, Caspar David Friedrich, John Piper, and Paul Nash.
Bruce McCay

Ann Thomas
Manteisiodd Ann, rhwng gŵyl a gwaith, ar bob cyfle i arlunio yn y maes – yn ei chynefin a dros y dŵr. Yn sgil ymweliadau â Ynysoedd Vega Norwy, cafodd wahoddiad i arddangos gwaith a chyfle i addysgu cwrs arlunio ar y brif ynys. Bu hefyd yn ymwelydd cyson â gwastatir mwyaf Ewrop sef Parc Cenedlaethol yr Hortobágy, Hwngari. Cafodd gyfle i greu ac arddangos cyfres o luniau yn ymwneud â bywyd gwyllt, treftadaeth a phobl yr Hortobágy yn 2016. Mae Ann (o Ddolgellau) wedi creu printiau o anifeiliaid pren Eglwys Brithdir – eglwys wedi ei rhestru gan CADW oherwydd ei chysylltiad â’r mudiad Celf a Chrefft.
Gaddiodd mewn Swôleg (1974), Coleg Prifysgol Aberystwyth ac ennill Tystysgrif Addysg Prifysgol Manceinion (1975). Bu’n dysgu mewn Ysgolion Uwchradd yng Nghymru a Lloegr ac yna yn darlithio ym Mhlas Tan y Bwlch am gyfnod o ugain mlynedd. Bu’n byw am ddwy flynedd yn Nhalaith Efrog Newydd a mwynhau cwrs ‘Argraffu’ yng Ngholeg Union, Schenectday, UDA, 1989 – 1990.
Mae’n arddangos gyda Chymdeithas Arlunwyr Cain Gogledd Cymru ac wedi cyfrannu i lyfr Margaret Stevens ‘Cyflwyniad i Arlunio Blodau’, Gwasg Quintet 1995. Mae hi’n gyfaill i Academi Frenhinol Cambria ac yn aelod o Arlunwyr Meirionnydd.
Ann has sketched outdoors at every available opportunity, at home and further afield. Adventures abroad have led to exhibitions and teaching commitment in the Arctic Circle – the Vega Archipelago, Norway. In contrast to cold northern climes, she has also used her art to embark on a project about Central Europe – the Hortobágy National Park, a protected landscape and World Heritage Site within the Great Hungarian Plain. She exhibited works to promote awareness and interest in the wildlife and heritage of the Hortobágy in 2016.
Nearer home – Dolgellau – Ann has worked on a series of images based on wooden creatures in Brithdir Church, a CADW listed church linked to the Arts and Crafts movement.
Ann graduated with a Degree in Zoology Aberystwyth, 1974 followed by a PGCE Manchester University 1975. She taught in Secondary Schools in England and Wales and lectured in Plas Tan y Bwlch for over twenty years. In the USA she enjoyed two years of Printmaking in Union College, Schenectady 1989- 1990.
Ann exhibits with The North Wales Watercolour and Fine Artists Society and has contributed to a book by the founding member of the Society, ‘An Introduction to Drawing Flowers’, Quintet Press 1995. Ann is a friend of the Royal Cambrian Academy Society of Welsh Artists, Conwy and a member of The Meirionnydd Artists.
Julia Wilson
I grew up in coastal Essex and now live in coastal Wales. Always attracted to ballet, plants and animals I started drawing at an early age, and, as well as enjoying gardening and drawing, I sculpted anything miniature from crinoline ladies, with minuscule ringlets and facial details, to bowls of fruit and stylish animals. Furthermore, I designed, and sewed, many animals, dolls, and clothing.
As an illustrator I work in a realistic, photographic style using pencil, pen and ink, watercolours, acrylics, clay, photography and a variety of craft materials, however, I’ve been known to do a few ‘abstracts’. Continue reading “Julia Wilson”
